Taupe is white, and White is Taupe

My day started out like any other day, I hauled myself out of bed and hugged the coffee pot for a while. I brought Bnut to school , I went to Wal mart, and the Post office. I KNEW today had to be better than yesterday, Yesterday while picking Bnut up from school I got rearended by a high school kid. He was probably paying more attention to the girl in his truck, and he hit me. I was at a red light, stopped, and he hit me going roughly 45 mph, can you say TOTALLED?

So I KNEW today had to be better.......not so much.

I came in from Walmart, and as I passed the house on the way to my lovely travel trailer I noticed that the painters had started painting. One more step almost completed on our road trip from hell. I THOUGHT they were painting a Primer Coat, since I knew I had picked a Taupe color for the exterior of the house. I have never been so wrong in my life.

I put up my crap from walmart, cleaned a bit, and sat down to eat some lunch. My oldest DD came by with the Grandson, and I was playing with him for a while, all the while the painters were "priming". When oldest DD was leaving she mentioned the missed spots in the paint, and I told her " oh, they will touch it up, it's only the primer coat". One of the painters turned around and said " NO Ma'am, this si the color you picked". I said " of course not, I mentioned to you YESTERDAY that it was Taupe, you know, tan.....light brownish off white. "
He says " Taupe, white, same color". The argument that ensued cannot be repeated in polite company. I made it clear that Taupe, and white are not the same color, not even close, although they might be in the same family.

After several phone calls to the builder, I straightened it out, explained that Taupe, and White are not the same color, and that this was not just any white, it was an arctic white. The kind of white that blinds you in the sunlight. They will be bck tomorrow with hopefully the right color paint, and hopefully get it done. One more step......

I was informed by one of their helpers that the last time there was a Mixup, the house in question was accidently painted SpongeBob Yellow......thank goodness that wasn't me!

The Great Ceiling Fan Debate of 09'

This weekend will be forever known as "The Great Ceiling Fan Debate of 09'". Dh and I have discovered in our Home Building adventure that we have VERY different tastes. You see, all of our other light fixtures kinda came wiht the old house, and we only changed them if they broke. Our furniture has always been " early Cheap" since I firmly believe that kids can sense expensive furniture, and then they stain it with something. At least MY heathens DID.

So, where was I? OH, yes, the ceiling fans. Well, I went to all 3 local big box stores, ( Lowes, Home Depot, and Sutherlands. ) and found several fans I liked, and one I LOVED! I showed them to DH saturday evening online, he hated ALL of them! Even the one with DEERHEADS, and I was positive he would LOVE that one.But no, he claimed they were too "rustic". So while my tastes run the the casual, even rustic, DH's run to the contemporary, classical ..cough ...cough..[strike]frilly[strike]( i think he is secretly gay).

I have decided that i will just let him pick the fans, but I get all the other light fixtures, so I get to pick 16, he gets 3, and Bnut gets to pick her bedroom ceiling fan, which of course is of the Softball motif, and we already have it. When I break, I mean um, when the FANS break in a few months, I will just get the ones I originally wanted, and dh will probably never even notice.

Girls, boys, and Dead Hermit Crabs

SO, I have an 11yo female child, who has recently discovered that boys are not quite as icky as she thought them to be. She now spends countless hours on the phone with her friend discussing who likes whom, and who is Hot. What they wore, and what they didn't wear. Boys on the other hand , at this age are not so much "into" girls. I am not sure how this works. I really don't want to know how it works. All I know is that by the time a boy is able to take my girl out for a date he will also get a lesson in shotgun cleaning.....

My Hermit Crab died today, she passed quietly sometime during the noon hour, just kinda fell out of her shell. She was not actually my Crab, she was Bnuts crab, but I watered and fed her, cleaned up after her, and paid attention to her. I am honestly shocked that she survived this long, poor thing has been thru hell. First she and her aquarium mates were evacuated twice in 2 weeks, stuck into a tiny plastic box, so unlike their nice spacious aquarium. Then they were kept in the tiny box for several months. Hermit crabs need space, and friends...this one was the sole survivor. I will bury her tomorrow, when it s warmer. RIP BAHAMA

parenthood, girls and other useless things

SO, My kid had to stay afterschool today, detention. Why did she have detention? She beat the crap out of some little boy, then threatened to do it again if he told on her, all observed by a Reading Teacher. WHY did she beat the crap out of the little boy? ( who is 12 BTW), because he called her " makeup face". WHY did he call her that? Who knows, and WHY did she take offense? Again who knows, but she did apparently. She has started wearing a little bit of makeup at school, behind my back since I told her no. She comes home with it on, and when she gets pink eye I don't want to hear the whining. I am guessing the afore mentioned little boy will refrain from name calling in the future, his black eye is not gonna help matters. I really fear that my 11yo girl is becoming a "boy bully". I swear I just really do NOT know what to do anymore.


SO, I have to take time out of my somewhat busy schedule to pick her up at school at 5:30, and dinner is late, and traffic is HORRENDOUS. UGGHH.

Or more commonly called a Johnny on the spot. Well, there is one in my yard, a big blue one. I guess it will save the Azaleas? They were sure to be a fatality. Not that i cared, i have been trying to kill them for years, I was kinda hoping.....

Construction is progressing nicely, we have framed walls, exterior and interior, concrete, and it is scored..YIPPEEE...My bum still hurts from doing that, and my everything else.

So Bay realized that her room is not the biggest in the house, it is the farthest away from mine however, and that is what matters. more later, Xman is not letting me type.....

My Day in a nutshell

Well, it started like any other day. I got up, got Bnut up, made coffee and sat on the couch for half an hour letting the caffeine do it's job. During this time I usually watch the news, and am amused at DH and Bnut trying to avoid speaking to me. I am NOT a morning person. Neither will speak to me until I have the coffee in my hand, and preferably am down to half a cup.

Anyway, I took her to school, late as usual....bad mommy. I came back, ate breaky and got my crap together to run errands. I had to get a couple of Propane bottles filled, since it is cold, and we are burning thru a 30 # bottle in a day and a half. Getting a tad expensive, but spring is coming. I have to ask though, what the hell happened to global warming?

So.....I got my stuff done, came back "home"( our lovely 30 ft travel trailer) and made a few phone calls. I needed to get prices on Concrete stain. I found the local place that sells the brand I want, the one I have decided on thru many many hours of internet research. ( and talking to my concrete contractor) We HAVE to cut the concrete on SUnday, and will Stain it within a few days after. I NEED this stuff.

Where was I? OH yeah, I called the Local Flooring Center, they sell tile, carpet, and concrete stain....

The girl answers, and I swear she sounds 12
I asked : Do you carry Kemico brand of Concrete stain? And do you sell to individuals?
She says" Yes we do"
I said OK " I need 6 gallons of the Cola, and 6 gallons of the Light Maylay tan, and I will need 12, no make it 13 gallons of sealer, and 2 gallons of wax. "
She says " ARe you a Do it Yourselfer?
I said " yes, we are"
SHE: OH< we cannot sell to DIYers
ME : HUH? you just said you sell to individuals
SHE: Yeah, but this is ACID
ME: NO shit? I knew that
SHE: WEll, we sell to individuals who are having it done, not DIYers
ME: UH yeah, we are having it done, so I will need 6 gallons of Cola, 6 gallons of Light Maylay tan, and 13 gallons of Sealer, 2 gallons of wax.
SHe: So that is enough to do 1900 sq feet, I assume you are mixing the 2 colors, that will be $1238.63, would you like it delivered?, the DIYers usually have it delivered
ME: yep, <> still shaking my head....

I am still a bit confused, and am sure she was too
SO then I settled down to watch the news at noon, and watch the concrete guys out the window, they work really fast BTW, amazingly fast. This resulted in boredom, which led to a 3 hour nap. The reason I am up so late, and will never get to sleep now......

Once upon a really expensive camera

SO, I had a digital camera, had being the keyword. Someone, who shall remain nameless ( since i have no idea who they are) Spilled COKE on it. It no longer works, and I am beside myself. I have never ever told DH how much it cost, and am afraid to mention it, for fear of the full force of his financial speech. I use my camera everyday, and now I am researching new ones. Nikon? Kodak? Fuji? My beloved baby was a Fuji, a FinePix S5 Pro DSLR to be exact. It was a bit complicated, and was hard to figure out at first, but I LOVED IT! SO now I am thinking point and shoot, and therein lies the dilemna....I feel that by buying another camera I am somehow doing something wrong. Shouldn't I get it fixed? Less stuff in the landfill that way, but also a $900 repair on a $1200 camera is a bit steep. SO if anyone has suggestions I am open.....I am buying this week, I hope!

Well let me tell ya....my Plumber was HOT, not fat, not bald, and no sign of Plumberbutt. Just a very nicely fitted pair of wranglers. I think he had helpers, not sure, never looked past him. Yeah, I KNOW I am married, but I ain't dead! I am a SAHM( the kind who stays at home all day while the kids are IN SCHOOL), I like Hot plumbers. More than that I like a plumbimg system that works, especially the sewer part, it is a MUST.

He did a great job, when the house is finished the sewers will work....I hope. He handed me a bill when he left, I have yet to look at it, afraid to actually.

Well, it is 4:30, Bnut, the 11yo will be home any minute, and the NONSTOP talking will begin.....sigh.

SO my Neighbor got Screwed

I was speaking to one of my neighbors this afternoon, and casually asked when they would be moving back into their home. They had to replace everything from floor to ceiling, and quite a bit on the second floor also.
I am in no huge hurry to listen to their dog bark at my dogs, but hey, they are our neighbors.
He told me his contractor had screwed him, he had not paid his workers, and had left town with the work unfinished, and the money in his pocket. So now he has an entire house of half finished work, and has to find someone to finish the job.

I have heard of this happening, but never knew anyone first hand who it had happened to. These are well educated people, and I cannot fathom how this occurred. Did they not check the BBB? Um....no they did not, they hired a friend of a friend of a friend....and got screwed. Just goes to show, friends may not always have good friends.

I will just be glad when everything is back to normal, for us that will be 4-6 months with good weather. The builders have to finish the form, and pour the concrete...then dh and I will score it for the Staining.....yippeee. I am so looking forward to that, not really but I have to pretend. We are DIY'ers, but GEEZ, this concrete slab is HUGE, and is costing me a fortune, not a small one either.

I am hoping this adventure does not end in : A) Divorce, B)me strangling someone C) taking longer than 6 months, in which case I WILL strangle someone.


I will close with that, since my 11yo is putting on her makeup before bed, and I have to make her wash it off so she does not get acne, and since she is not allowed to wear it to school......come back fo more tomorrow....
